The Values and Qualities of Being a Lady

Hello, ladies, it’s Kimmie from The Young Lady’s Journal here! In today’s society, it seems that it can be too easy to lose sight of the traditional qualities and values that ladies should be embracing in their every day lives. This is my first blog post and I am looking forward to sharing my own insights on the values and qualities of being a lady.

1. She’s a lady of kindness

A lady should always treat others with compassion and respect. True beauty comes from within, so even if you are beautiful on the outside, you can be ugly on the inside if you treat others with neglect and harshness. Being a good listener or helper to family members, loved ones, and friends can go a long way. Sometimes people just need to be heard and have a place to vent before they are able to ask for help to navigate the problems they are facing in their own lives. As a lady, it’s important to be sympathetic and genuine when caring for someone in need of assistance or reassurance.

2. She’s trustworthy and virtuous

Respect and trust are earned, and it’s in a lady’s best interest to always attain both. When a lady is trustworthy, others know that they can depend on her. Knowing right from wrong can seem like a given, but sometimes the wrong decision can be the easier choice. The harder choice can be the right decision and ladies shouldn’t try to take the easy way out with a poor decision. How can a lady know which is the right choice when faced with a dilemma? Being aware of and following her own high moral standards and values can assist the lady in determining the best decision.

3. She’s charming and embraces her femininity

A charming lady is well-mannered, polite, and friendly. She also has a great sense of humor and knows to not take everything too seriously. According to the Mayo Clinic, “Laughter is the best medicine” (2021). For further reading about the short-term and long-term benefits of laughing, that article is linked here. A lady should embrace her femininity and be proud of the woman she is becoming. Ways to exude femininity include being gentle, sensitive to others’ feelings, thoughtful, nurturing, patient, and vulnerable. Being vulnerable does not make you weak, but instead shows that you care and are emotionally mature to be able to connect with and understand others. Additionally, a lady can embrace her feminine side by wearing a pretty dress or pair of heels! Getting dolled up to go out can be fun and make her feel special when going out!

4. She is driven to achieve her goals

A lady with confidence exudes strong self-esteem that will drive her ambition to achieve her goals. Having a set of goals in terms of a future career is always important, but it’s also worthwhile to have goals pertaining to relationships and religion. For setting future career goals, making a five year plan can be especially helpful and serve as a year by year outline of when specific goals should be achieved by. Relationship goals can include ways for how to improve communication and acts of love toward family members, friends, loved ones, and your boyfriend. Religious goals can include ways to strengthen your faith through prayer, attending church, reading the Bible, or even religious videos online. As a Catholic, I recently started watching the Bible in a Year Podcast on YouTube. In a total of 365 daily episodes, Father Mike Schmitz reads through the Bible, and guides Catholics with a prayer and reflection from each reading. If you are Catholic or interested in reading the Bible, I highly recommend this incredible podcast series!

Every day, we must choose our words and actions wisely, and reflect on our mistakes to be able to learn from them. Being a proper lady takes grace and good manners, among other highly valued qualities.
